Plantbased Drink Recipe - Spicy Gin Margarita - Vegan Good Life Magazine

There’s still a wide variation of things out there that need to be properly veganized and one thing we found highly underrepresented is: Drinks (or, as the German chapter of the team would pronounce it: Dwinks!)! If you like spicy, you’ll love this one. Ever thought about swapping Tequila with Gin? Well, we did and this happened. The Spicy Gin Margarita has everything you need after a long exhausting day in the ‘not so vegan world’. Once you start, you won’t stop nipping. Promise.

Ingredients for the Spicy Gin Margarita
  • 2 oz - Gin (we used Brandstifter Dry Gin)
  • 3/4 oz - Cointreau 
  • 1 oz  - fresh lemon juice 
  • 1/2 oz - chili pepper syrup (you can also use store-bought spicy syrup, but in case you feel creative, there are instructions to make your own below)
  • Fresh chili pepper
  • Chili salt for the rim

How to make the Spicy Gin Margarita
  1. Muddle chili in the bottom of a shaker tin. 
  2. Add remaining ingredients and ice.
  3. Shake and strain into a rocks glass rimmed with chili salt over fresh ice.
  4. Drizzle more chili salt on top if you want 
  5. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
    How to make the Chili Pepper Syrup
    1. 1 cup: granulated sugar 
    2. 1 cup water
    3. 1 chili pepper, sliced
    4. Stir together sugar, water, and sliced chili pepper in a small saucepan. 
    5. Bring to a boil over medium-high; cook 1 minute. 
    6. Remove from heat; let stand 20 minutes. 
    7. Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a bowl; discard chili slices. 
    8. Chill syrup until ready to use.
